Living on the farm meant hard work, getting up early, milking the cows, tending to the livestock, nurturing the vegetable gardens, picking cherries and apricots from the orchard, farming the crops and just plain upkeep. My older siblings remembers well all the many early morning chores that needed to be done, before going to school. Of course there were so many happy childhood years growing on a farm. There's ice skating on Sand Creek and making homemade ice cream in the winter; fishing, boating and swimming at the nearby lake; eating watermelon after school on the backyard picnic table; going to the local county fair and entering livestock and homemade items in our local 4-H club and having lots of friends and relatives stopping by the farmhouse for those memorable homemade meals cooked by my mother. I even liked hanging the laundry on the clothes line outdoors; you can't get better freshness than good hot sunshine! My parents taught us siblings the value of putting in a good day of work as a result we have all been happiest at being productive and not one to let grass grow under our feet, several of us have businesses of our own.
